Local Atlanta North Point Fitness trainer, Anthony Wilkins, has taken on a 24 hour workout marathon on Saturday, August 1st to raise money for the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. For every dollar his supporters pledge during the month of July, Wilkins has agreed to do one burpee* and one ninety-five pound bench press. So far, Wilkins has raised $4,080 so far in July, raising his overall total of funds collected to over $7,000. This is Wilkins’ first 2-Day Walk, and already, he is the 2nd highest individual fundraiser for the year.
Wilkins is a part of the gym’s “Pink Sweaters” Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer team, and will be joined by his wife, Arkisha, during the 2-Day Walk on October 3-4. Wilkins’ mother, Patricia Wilkins, is a breast cancer survivor. He was motivated by her story, as well as the recent diagnosis of a long-term client, to join the 2-Day Walk.
*The burpee is a full body exercise used in strength training and as an aerobic exercise. The basic movement is performed in four steps and known as a “four-count burpee”:
- Begin in a standing position.
- Drop into a squat position with your hands on the ground. (count 1)
- Kick your feet back, while keeping your arms extended. (count 2)
- Immediately return your feet to the squat position. (count 3)
- Jump up from the squat position (count 4)
