Training
Don’t Forget to Train!
Get ready to hit the ground running on October 4th- your training matters! Whether you’re walking your first mile or your fiftieth, consistency is key:
“The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.”
View our training schedule here.
Key points:
* Walk 2-3 days during the week 20-40 minutes minimum.
* If training for the 2-Day Saturday and Sunday option, try to do 2 sessions back to back, as per the schedule.
* Don’t worry about speed on the longer walks, only distance.
* Join us for some or all of our provided training walks!
Our second Adventure kicks off Friday, June 26, and ends on Thursday, July 9! A huge thank you to Datadobi for helping us make this Adventure possible!
Our 7-part Adventure series is designed to inspire you- getting you out of the house to explore new paths, to recruit new 2-Day Walkers, and to raise even more money to fight breast cancer in Georgia!
For our second Adventure, we are challenging you to:
- Walk to Your Favorite Restaurant: If you live close enough to safely walk to a nearby restaurant that you love, turn it into an opportunity to get some steps in! We know that now, more than ever, some of your incredible 2-Day fundraising partners are in need of some extra support! Send us a pic of you out supporting your favorite restaurant, and you could be the next person featured on our Instagram page! Email those pictures to wjones@2daywalk.org.
- Contest: Earn Your Team a Mad Italian Pizza Party! Now is the time to reach out to past 2-Day participants who still need to register, to friends who have always promised you to walk, and to old team members who have moved! This challenge is open to teams of 5 or more. The team with the most new recruits (can be both rookie and returning participants) per team per capita during this time period will receive an old school pizza party at The Mad Italian! Contest runs Friday, June 26- Thursday, July 9. Good luck!!
- “Catch Up” Fundraising Goal: As a reminder, we are trying to get “caught up” on fundraising, and want our 2-Day fundraising thermometer to read $300,000 by July 10th! This is a big goal, but with a little teamwork, we can do it! If each participant raises $50 per week, we will smash our goal. Every dollar helps, so start small today by asking a friend for a $5 donation!
- Check Out an Inspiration Location! We have two great options for your Inspiration Locations this time! If you’re looking for a great place to explore in metro-Atlanta, we suggest heading over to the Noonday Creek Trail! This 8.5 mile, out and back multi-use trail has two disconnected sections, and runs through both Cherokee and Cobb counties. You can access the trail at any one of its end points, and it is good for walkers of all levels of fitness. Access the northern segment of the trail at Market & Elm Streets in Woodstock (parking available at Woofstock Dog Park, 150 Dupree Rd., Woodstock). Access the southern segment of the trail at Kennesaw National Battlefield Park (1201 Old 41 Highway NW, Kennesaw) or at 3001 Bells Ferry Road in Marietta.
Looking to get out of town for a stretch? How about heading to Savannah and checking out McQueen’s Island Trail! The 6 mile trail is built on an old railroad line, and runs parallel to the Savannah River, crossing through beautiful marshland! To reach the eastern trailhead, follow US 80 east toward Tybee Island. The trailhead entrance is about 15 miles east of Savannah; look for the sign for Fort Pulaski National Monument. Parking is available along the road or at the fort.
To reach the western trailhead, follow the directions above, but continue a few miles along US 80 to a small roadside parking area just before the turnoff for Fort Pulaski.
