Greek Americans Against Breast Cancer (GAABC) is a non-for-profit organization founded by Plato Academy in an effort to raise awareness and funds to help end breast cancer. In 2008, our Principal, Marianthi Koritsaris was diagnosed with breast cancer. Students, staff members and parents alike, were deeply saddened and affected by this news. This organization began because of the love they had for Mrs. K. They wanted to do something to honor her, make a difference, and help put an end to this disease. As a result, GAABC was born! Gearing up for our third gala, we have raised over $50,000 to date for breast cancer research and awareness. Each gala partners with a different breast cancer organization to which most of the money raised is donated. Past organizations include the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center of Northwestern and A Silver Lining Foundation. This year we will partner with The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern. A portion of the funds also go back to Plato Academy both to fund social justice aspects of the curriculum (service projects, etc.) as well as scholarships for families affected by this disease.
On October 23, 2015, we are looking forward to our best turnout yet and we hope to see you there!
